Meg is the eldest and on the brink of love. Then there鈥檚 tomboy Jo who longs to be a writer. Sweet-natured Beth always puts others first, and finally there鈥檚 Amy, the youngest and most precocious. Together they are the March sisters. Even though money is short, times are tough and their father is away at war, their infectious sense of fun sweeps everyone up in their adventures 鈥?including Laurie, the boy next door. And through sisterly squabbles, their happy times and sad ones too, the sisters discover that growing up is sometimes very hard to do.
Based on Louisa May Alcott鈥檚 childhood, this lively portrait of nineteenth-century family life possesses a lasting vitality that has endeared it to generations of readers.

A wonderful story... This is the first-ever English-language edition of the book Leo Tolstoy considered to be his most important contribution to humanity, the work of his life's last years. Widely read in prerevolutionary Russia, banned and forgotten under Communism; and recently rediscovered to great excitement, A Calendar of Wisdom is a day-by-day guide that illuminates the path of a life worth living with a brightness undimmed by time. Unjustly censored for nearly a century, it deserves to be placed with the few books in our history that will never cease teaching us the essence of what is important in this world.

Louisa May Alcott ended Little Women (1868) with the words "So the curtain falls upon Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Whether it ever rises again, depends upon the reception given the first act of the domestic drama called Little Women." It was an immediate commercial and critical success, and readers demanded to know more about the characters. Alcott quickly completed a second volume, Good Wives (1869), and later Little Men (1871)and Jo's Boys (1886). The novels follow the lives of the four March sisters鈥擬eg, Beth, Jo and Amy, each with a very different character. It has been argued that within Little Women one finds the first vision of the "All-American girl" and that her multiple aspects are embodied in the differing March sisters. But whatever the reason, generations of readers have loved these novels since they were first published.

The ultimate rapid language-learning guide! For those who鈥檝e despaired of ever learning a foreign language, here, finally, is a book that will make the words stick. At thirty years old, Gabriel Wyner speaks six languages fluently.聽 He didn鈥檛 learn them in school -- who does? -- rather, he learned them in the past few years, working on his own and practicing on the subway, using simple techniques and free online resources. In Fluent Forever Wyner reveals what he鈥檚 discovered.聽
聽
The greatest challenge to learning a foreign language is the challenge of memory; there are just too many words and too many rules. For every new word we learn, we seem to forget two old ones, and as a result, fluency can seem out of reach.聽Fluent Forever聽tackles this challenge head-on. With empathy for the language-challenged and abundant humor, Wyner deconstructs the learning process, revealing how to build a foreign language in your mind from the ground up.聽
聽
Starting with pronunciation, you鈥檒l learn how to rewire your ears and turn foreign sounds into聽familiar聽sounds. You'll retrain your tongue to produce those sounds accurately, using聽tricks from opera singers and actors.聽Next, you'll聽begin to tackle words, and connect sounds and spellings to imagery, rather than translations, which will enable you to聽think聽in a foreign language.聽 And with the help of sophisticated spaced-repetition techniques, you'll be able to memorize hundreds of words a month in聽minutes聽every day. Soon, you'll gain the ability to learn grammar and more difficult abstract words--without the tedious drills and exercises of language classes and grammar books.
聽
This is brain hacking at its most exciting, taking what we know about neuroscience and linguistics and using it to create the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn聽a foreign language in the spare minutes of your day.
